In this wedding photography posing guide we cover the basics for posing families. When photographing the wedding formals, the part that typically takes the least amount of time is the family formals. With this group, there tends to be less opportunity for creativity. Some family members may have mobility issues that limit where you can place them. I typically leave the family formals last so, depending on if the couple was ready on time, you may be in a time crunch. That being said, with a little attention to detail in the posing, you should be able to create quality family formal photographs.

In this wedding photography posing guide, we discuss the wedding party with ideas for how to photograph each side separately. The wedding party is an wonderful opportunity for fun, creative photos. For the more carefree group, I suggest personalizing their wedding party photographs by adding props. I always photograph each side of the wedding party in a standard pose. From there we build, gradually getting into more fun, adventurous poses.

Wedding Photography Posing Guide - The Wedding Party, Part 1I love photographing the wedding party because it is another opportunity for creativity and fun. In my pre-wedding consultation with the bride and groom, we discuss their wedding party so I can get an idea what type of group I'll be working with. Occasionally, the friends in the wedding party have come from different parts of the couple's life and therefore, don't know each other very well or at all. This type of situation may present a less playful group which is fine. More often than not, the bride and groom tell me the bridal party not only get along, they may be a little boisterous. I love this type of group because they tend to be more open to fun ideas ... Read More

Not only do you have the technical aspects of photography running through your head but you have to know how to pose your subjects. You have two people dressed up in their finest on one of the most important days of their life. For the bridal couple, the day can be very surreal - full of nerves and anxiety. Then the bride turns to you and says, "What do you want us to do?" You have to be able to make decisions quickly and efficiently - and do so over and over again in a way that puts the couple at ease.
First, my mini disclaimer: I have photographed over 400 weddings in the past 15 years and ... Read More
